Note: The SI is a perceptual metric (based on self-assessment) and should function as a compass for climate and quality—not as an "objective" performance metric.

The Essential Formula

Symbiosis manifests across four fundamental dimensions:

  1. Speed
    Are we delivering value quickly?
  2. Depth
    Are we making wise, well-informed, long-view decisions?
  3. Humanity
    Do we feel alive, energized, connected to purpose?
  4. Friction
    How much waste, noise, rework, or human–AI tension are we facing?

To simplify, friction is converted to its opposite:

Fluidity = 10 − Friction

Thus, all four dimensions become positive forces sustaining symbiosis.

SI = (Speed + Depth + Humanity + Fluidity) / 4

How to Measure (2-Minute Practice)

Once a week, each team answers four quick 0–10 questions:

  1. Speed:
    How quickly did we deliver value this week?
  2. Depth:
    How thoughtful and well-informed were our decisions?
  3. Humanity:
    How energized, connected, and alive did we feel?
  4. Friction:
    How much friction did we have? (rework, human–AI tension, confusion, noise)

Then convert friction:
Fluidity = 10 – Friction
